Solvent Base Conformal Coating Component Issues
At present, most of the solvent-coating adhesives in the market have 30-80% volatile components during the curing process. These components are organic volatiles that are harmful to the environment and the human body.
Solvent type:
- Aromatic hydrocarbons: benzene, toluene, etc.
- Aliphatic hydrocarbons: pentane, octane, etc.
- Alicyclic hydrocarbons: cyclohexane, cyclohexanone, etc.
- Halogenated hydrocarbons: trichloromethane, chlorobenzene, etc.
- Alcohols: methanol, isopropyl alcohol, etc.
- Ether: ether, propylene oxide, etc.
- Esters: methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, etc.
- Ketones: acetone, methyl butyl ketone, etc.
- Diol derivatives: ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol monethyl ether, etc.
- Other

Name | Health hazard | Safety hazard |
Benzene | It has a paralyzing effect on the central nervous system, and acute poisoning can produce nerve spasms and even coma | Highly flammable, in case of open fire, high heat cause combustion explosion |
n-pentane | It can cause mild irritation of the eye and respiratory mucosa or symptoms of anesthesia | Extremely flammable, in case of open fire, high heat is easy to burn and explode |
Cyclohexane | Irritating to the eyes and upper respiratory tract, continuous inhalation can cause dizziness, drowsiness and other symptoms of anesthesia | Volatile and easy to burn, in case of open fire, high heat easy to burn explosion |
Trichloromethane | Acts on the central nervous system, has an anesthetic effect, and has damage to the heart, liver and kidney | Non-flammable, but contact with open flames or hot objects can produce highly toxic phosgene |
Carbinol | It has an anesthetic effect on the central nervous system and is easy to cause lesions on the optic nerve | Flammable, can form an explosive mixture with air, there is a risk of explosion |
Ethyl ether | High exposure can range from excitement to drowsiness, vomiting, pallor, and can even be life-threatening | Flammable, easy to burn and explode in case of open fire |
Acetone | It is irritating to the eyes, nose and throat, and has an anesthetic effect on the central nervous system, resulting in dizziness, vomiting and even coma | Flammable, can form an explosive mixture with air, there is a risk of explosion |
